MUSE 2020
July 13-17, 2020
Class times will be held from 9:30am – 5pm MST
There is a comprehensive course list of each individual class being taught during this MUSE virtual camp opportunity. Each class has a series of listed activities and description. It will be of particular interest for students to peruse the Elective Course offerings, as these are the courses which students have autonomy in selecting.
In short, however, students will take part in age/ability appropriate group instrumental classes.
In addition, they will have the chance to enroll in two of four musical elective classes which provide a way to improve their individual approach to studying music (Elective A) and a musically driven history or technology opportunity, designed to introduce them to new concepts through social, historical or technological applications/connections (Elective B).
Additionally, MUSE will provide our daily Virtual Café, which is a space created to get to know other young musicians through lunch time.
We will end each day with a special presentation from El Paso Symphony Orchestra faculty in our daily Faculty Recitals and Masterclasses.
This camp is best suited for students who will be entering 5th grade in the FALL of 2020 or are ages 10 and up. Generally, a student will need at least ONE year of playing experience on one of the instruments we are teaching in order to obtain the most optimal learning experience. For virtual camp, you can join us from anywhere in the world!
We want to provide the best possible experience of musical enrichment to your child, and so we suggest partaking in each of the day’s activities throughout the week. However, we understand that prior schedules may make that difficult. We are here for you. We suggest at least taking part in the daily group lessons for your child’s instrument. We also want to provide a complete list to the instructors of those who have signed up for each elective. If time or situation may prohibit you from taking parts in electives of masterclasses held in the latter part of the day, please let our offices know.
We will be compiling a “summing up” video which will include unique moments from the week’s activities (classroom teaching, students projects or performances, etc.). We will provide all participants with a link to this video once created for you to view once editing is finished.
We are planning on capping each virtual class at 40 campers in order to keep everyone actively engaged in this format.
Dr. James Welsch, EPSYO Music Director and General Manager, along with each faculty member, will act as the moderators for every class. Each camper will receive an individual Zoom link to their class. They will be held in a “waiting room” so instructors can confirm their identify before being admitted to the virtual class.
There is no cost for current members of either the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras (EPSYO) or Orquesta Nueva Escuela Mexico – Cd. Juarez (ONEM – Cd. Juarez). However, if you’re not a member of either organization, that’s ok. MUSE is for everyone! Cost for non-members of either above organization will be just $40 for the week.
All students receive the same opportunities and instruction regardless of membership to either organization or not.
